Boo.

On the plus side, yesterday, the Phillies remembered the best way to win is a combination of the pitcher NOT giving up home runs AND scoring more runs than the other team. Always fabulous. I always say — if you’re breaking out of slump, why not kick a little New York ass at the same time? Yankees or Mets, I’m not particular. I hates them both.

It’s not entirely working.

I did finish about 2/3 of my math portfolio and the rest of my final speech for Public speaking today. Yesterday, I did section one of my Modern China paper and about 1/3 of my French paper.

I just can’t find the energy to finish section two for China and the the next third of the French paper. *sniffles* My French paper is planning a vacation to a French speaking country in French, so I chose Tahiti. It is not cheering me up to plan the dream vacation I won’t be able to afford for another decade. Evil. I should have chosen Luxembourg or someplace else I’d never want to go.

Between sleeping, lectures and homework, and the occasional night out, I find myself with very little free time. I miss being in high school if only for the fact that I had fewer responsibilities.

Now I have to go clean my room and start my laundry, because I’m pretty sure the article I need for my speech next week is hiding under my bed. Good grief. And *then* I have to translate the Hunchback of Notre Dame from French to English to have any hope under standing what the frick I’m listening to on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And if there’s time before my Conquerors lecture tonight, I have to figure out the different bases for math class, so I don’t have to hand in another blank quiz.

And possibly lunch, but I guess that’s optional at this point.

The podcasts are wonderful — both video and audio and they’re free.

Today, I was browsing Itunes and clicked Itunes U…and found nirvana. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for history. I’m a history major, I want to teach history when I graduate and I have stumbled across a huge repetoire of History lectures and features from universities and colleges from all over the country. From STANFORD, for crying out loud.

Very awesome. There are tons of categories, which I will continue to peruse. However will I get through them all?

I have come to accept that I will not always have a competent teacher. I’m just taking too much classes in too many areas to expect that, but wouldn’t it be nice to be able to expect that your teacher is not bat-shit crazy?

I’ve had boring teachers. Mr. Sheehan in the eighth grade was okay, but I honestly don’t remember anything about the class. He had a long neck and a small head. But that’s it. I’ve had incompetent teachers as well. Tommarchio in my junior year didn’t do a lot of teaching, but I should have known I wouldn’t do well in chemistry class, so that’s a failure on my part too.

I’ve had really excellent teachers like Professor Blass and Professor Howard, whom I have this semester. And Mr. DiSibio and Mr. Higgs in high school.

So one would say that I’ve been somewhat spoiled. I’ve had more good teachers than bad certainly, but until this semester I’d never had an insane one. So far, he’s insinuated that Barack Obama is a Muslim and associates with terrorists. He remarked today that he doesn’t think he’s ever had a student at our college break 1000 on the SATs. (I find this hard to believe….I had an 1150 but chose CCC because my grades in high school were kind of crappy and it’s a cheaper.) But yeah, insinuated that our class was stupid.

I wish it stopped there. We have been in class for a month now, eight classes. The subject is US History I, except I’m not sure how much history we’ve actually covered. Today we talked about abstinence, how we shouldn’t vote for the bailout package and…a lot of other stuff I stopped listening to. I could literally feel my brain cells dying inside.

In fact, in this class, I have done something that I haven’t since chemistry (and I had T’s cooperation because we both knew I was hopeless)…I have pulled out a book for the last three classes and I’ve read. And after he called Obama a Muslim last week, I listened to Ipod. I’m actually kind of disappointed in myself because I’ve never been driven to that place before.

But I figure…when he starts teaching the subject I’m paying to learn, I’ll put the book away.

Gah. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting old or I just enjoy my sleep a lot but my 8 AM Art Appreciation class is kicking my ass. I’m sooo tired all the time. Thank God it’ll be over in another week. I think my Computer Literacy class will be a bit easier for me in the morning. It will require a lot less thinking on my part.

I have my new laptop. Still getting everything caught up and reinstalled on the computer. It’s Windows Vista, which is different than XP in so many ways. I don’t have my old copy of Dreamweaver CS3 so I had to reinstall MX 2004. Hopefully I’ll be able to find my CS3 because I got used to that way that one worked. I’ve been working on a few projects, trying to streamline things but everything’s just been getting away from me. There are just not enough hours in the day to fit everything in.

The plan for this week (loosely) is the following:

SCHOOL

1. Museum Paper – Due June 12.

2. French Notes – Chapter 2

3. Get Comp Lit books from brother

WEBSITE

1. Move SATC FL from dd.net to much-ado.org

2. Update much-ado.org files so they’re more current. The ones I had backed up offline were a few months old.

3. Finish adding GH screencaps to R-H.com gallery

WRITING/WEBSITE

1. Finish Daughters 18

2. Update CG.com and overhaul so it functions as an archive. Try to figure out how to incorporation into my forums.

GENEALOGY

1. Update plugs in at blog — DONE

2. Are posts in blog up to date?

I’ll report back in a few days to see how that’s all going.

Well, to start this post on a positive note, I had my orientation at Commerce today. It was definitely an experience unlike any other. There were some games, the instructor was very engaging, so all in all, I’m looking forward to my training and starting work.

It was the end of the day that was not so much fun. I got home and went across to submit my class registration for my Goal Center classes. I’m taking two classes to defer my student loans for this semester but when I got there, they had changed Western Civilization to World Civilization, which I had already taken. I was taking the other class, Health and Wellness just to have a second class, so there’s no point in taking it now. I’m a little ticked off.

So I checked the mail and found that Lady of Lourdes had sent me a collection notice for their payment. I called them to get the bill merged into my other account, the one I’m on a payment plan for and then I called the copy I have my debt consolidation loan with. They had offered me an additional $200 when I started to work so I called them to find out if I could get $600 which would be enough for two classes at the college. I had to jump through a lot of hoops just to get maybe $300 so I’m not even sure it’s worth it at this point.

Kind of crappy

I got the call on Tuesday that I got the job! It’s a little less than I had anticipated and it’s a full $2 less than I was making at Comcast, but it should still be enough to get my bills paid and after six months, I’ll get a raise. Plus, the hours are just enough that I’ll make some decent money but it works out that I have three full weekdays and two mornings clear for classes next fall, so it’s really the best work schedule I could have hoped for.

I took my drug test today and I get fingerprinted on Friday. I’m kind of excited to work at a bank, I wonder how much different it will be than Comcast and GGB, the only other places I’ve really worked. I’m just so thrilled to be able to work again and still come out with a lot of free time. I won’t have to give up my Trenton trips during the week! Very awesome news.

I was at the library tonight for the historical society meeting and it struck me that I had never checked out their Internet section so I popped over to see if they had anything about web design. They had a few books so I picked up on about HTML and XML (I expect to get a rehash of what I already know) and one that’s just a general resource on web design. I’m sure I know a portion of the material but it never hurts to brush up.

I’ve been working on the Nora Roberts site. I gave up Wordpress and came up with another idea that I’ll be hoping to launch sometime in February. I’m actually excited about the new layout for the site. It’s incorporating a lot of what I’m learning from the CSS book I bought last week.
