Well, I actually did everything I planned on doing. I finished my laundry, I picked up some food so that I wouldn’t be tempted to order out so much, I went to my job interview (I’m about 75% positive that I’m going to get a second interview), and I continued working on my genealogy blog. That project is being kind of cranky as it’s a lot of grunt work right now filling in all the information. I’m using an internal links plugin on that and it’s just a bit of extra code typing. Bit of a pain.
I started a new project on January 1 — part of my New Year’s Resolution to write more fan fiction. I decided to only concentrate on one story at a time and to write something every single day. I pulled out a NaNoWriMo Excel template to keep track of how much I wrote, how often and how far I have left to go. I’ve written three days straight and knocked out an addition 4,000 words for Daughters, which I’m thrilled about. I won’t post anything until February though because I want to send it to someone to look it over.
Tomorrow’s project is to finish cleaning out my job and organize the last corner or so. I have two huge bookcases that I tend to put things on (I throw jewelry on the edge, my deoderant, my allergy medicine, etc.) and I have another bookcase that I used to keep my DVDs on, but now it holds all the miscellaneous paper stuff that I have to weed through. I also need to update my personal files with the bills and whatnot that have come in over the last month and archive my 2007 stuff.
Yay me
I was doing a Google search for some new plugins for Wordpress when I stumbled over this: More Google Products. Good grief, I don’t even think I could come up with a reason to use all those services but I’ve been browsing through them just the same.
I especially like GoogleDocs because it’s a lovely idea to be able to share my documents and spreadsheets with others, especially if I’m collaborating on a fanfiction (though I’ve only attempted this once or twice and I suck at it) and even better, it would be great to be able to take certain documents anywhere to be able to work on them instead of having to rely on my forums, which is what I’ve been doing this last year. I just wish it supported Microsoft Office 2007 (or at least Excel 2007).
WebAccelerator is also fabulous. Once it’s installed, it speeds up your site and you can even find out how much time you’ve saved by a little monitor on the browser. After three hours, I’ve saved 5.4 minutes. I know that’s not a lot but every less second something takes me the more time I have for myself later. It adds up
I would definitely recommend checking them out.
I’m finally getting a chance to catch up on my laundry and clean out my closet. I had to wait a week for my brother to finish his. He’s such a pain. I would rather have done this earlier in the week since I have a job interview tomorrow and I didn’t feel like doing this today but you have to do what you have to so things get done. I’m going to be doing that and working on my genealogy blog. I’m taking a break from my Nora Roberts site because the combination of Enthusiast and Wordpress is making my head hurt.
I love Codesort, don’t get me wrong. In fact, Codesort and FanUpdate are my two favorite scripts, right behind Enthusiast. The world is a better place with those running around, so believe me, I’m thrilled about them.
Unfortunately, Codesort 2.0 is giving me some problems with using it across three domains. I run fanlistings on scott-clifton.com and robinpatrick.net in addition to those on much-ado.org. All three use the same Enth installation, so it shouldn’t be any issue to use the same Codesort and FanUpdate. FanUpdate is working like a charm. Codesort, however, is being extremely cranky and not allowing the codes to actually show. Grr. I’ve got a post in at Codegrrl and an email to the script creator. Hopefully I’ll get it squared.
In another news, I finally dug out my genealogy files and started getting back into them. My grandmother advised me to take a month off. I was only able to put it away for about three weeks. But still — an excellent attempt on my part. I’m going through them to make sure that they’re all current and organized before going back at it. I think I’m going to make another trip to Trenton later this week. Don’t worry, I won’t use my regular blog for my genealogy talk. I opened a new blog — dearisobel.org/family — just for that purpose.
It looks like one of my pet projects is finally getting off the ground — Crimson Glass Reviews. I’m looking forward to collaborating with some of people that have volunteered to help review General Hospital fan fictions. It’ll be great to wade through the deep level of…questionable quality stories out there and help direct people to the good stuff.
